Ekotrope’s RESNET 2022 Sessions at a Glance

The first in-person RESNET Conference since 2020 is just over a month away and our team is thrilled to have the opportunity to chat with you like we did in the good old days. (Psst.. Let this serve as your reminder to register for the conference if you haven’t already as there is an attendee cap on this year’s in-person conference to ensure we all can abide by social distancing and safety protocols.) This year’s conference will be a two-part event, so if for whatever reason you cannot attend in person there are also virtual tickets available at a discounted rate. In any case, Ekotrope will be presenting three sessions at this year’s conference- two of which will be presented live, but all sessions will also be available virtually.

Our team has been hard at work preparing some awesome presentations that offer insights on a variety of topics. Ekotrope’s own Cy Kilbourn and David Pedrick will inform you on how to find the right energy efficient products for your projects, how to utilize our Scenario Modeling tool to achieve net-zero emissions and how to make your field data collection process seamless. This year each of our sessions are intended to be relevant for anyone attending the conference, with a “Beginner” (<0-2 years in the industry) learning level designated for each. The reason for this is that we want to ensure that everyone in the HERS Rating industry can reap value from any one of our sessions.

If you’re attending the in-person conference this year, make sure to stop by the Ekotrope booth and say hi to our team! With that being said, let’s dive into the sessions!

Closing the Information Gap About Energy Efficient Products

Presenter: Cy Kilbourn

Format: In-person, Available Virtually

Category: The New Frontier for the HERS Industry

Learning Objectives:

  • Understanding current industry trends in terms of market adoption of certain energy efficient products.

  • Learning general concepts about how to leverage HERS Rating information to move the market toward energy efficiency.

With thousands of energy efficient products available for home builders, and more innovative solutions coming to market every day, how can we best find and evaluate these products and connect builders to the right products for their homes? Are there missed opportunities to build better homes simply due to a lack of quality information? (spoiler alert: yes!) In this session, Cy will show how we can leverage the data from nearly 250,000 Ekotrope HERS Ratings in 2021 to explore these questions, discuss some surprising industry trends, and build a toolkit of answers and solutions that drive toward better home building decisions, all while reducing headaches and wasted time for HERS Raters. As part of this session, Cy will offer a peek at our  toolkit of innovative solutions created to close the information gap between builders and product manufacturers. Our goal is that you’ll come away from this session with a better understanding of how to navigate the constantly evolving marketplace for energy efficient products.

How the U.S. Housing Market will Achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions

Presenter: David Pedrick

Format: In-person, Available Virtually

Category: Path to Net Zero Carbon Homes

Learning Objectives:

  • Drivers of energy efficiency in the U.S. housing market.

  • How to use Scenario Modeling.

  • Impacts of various programs on us housing energy consumption.

David will be using Ekotrope’s unique dataset and Scenario Modeling tool to explore the various pathways to net-zero. Ekotrope’s broad dataset of nearly 1 million homes allows us a unique perspective on net-zero strategies and policies. This data in combination with Scenario Modeling - a new tool that enables Raters to quickly answer what-if questions on large groups of energy models - allows Ekotrope to analyze many net-zero strategies quickly and identify the best options with relative ease and evaluate the effectiveness of various building strategies to achieve net zero in the US new construction home market.

David will discuss how these data and lessons learned can help decision-makers craft new policies and building strategies to achieve Net-Zero carbon construction. Whether you’re interested in understanding the bigger picture of achieving net-zero or just want to understand a bit more about how you can improve your builders’ portfolios, we highly recommend attending this session!

Streamline Data Entry with Cloud Technology

Presenter: David Pedrick

Format: Virtual

Category: New Frontier for HERS Industry

Learning Objectives:

  • Utilizing Inspection Sync to make field data collection more efficient and seamless.

  • What software tools can be integrated with Inspection Sync.

Field data collection is a headache, we know. And it’s also one of the biggest challenges for raters in terms of making their processes more efficient because it creates a huge bottleneck. David Pedrick will walk you through how you can mitigate this bottleneck and do away with transcribing inspection data into Ekotrope RATER for good.

In this session, David will discuss various HERS Rating workflows and inspection softwares used today. David will then offer a hands-on tutorial for how to make your field inspection data collection process seamless with Inspection Sync, showing the implementation of a commonly used inspection app to Ekotrope RATER data connection that eliminates duplicate data entry and speeds your delivery of HERS Ratings. Then the session will finish with a hands-on tutorial on how to build a seamless connection between your project management and inspection apps to Ekotrope RATER.

Our team is very excited to share each of these sessions with you as they are all very important to enhancing the efficiency of the homes you model, the processes you utilize, and your understanding of the biggest drivers of new market trends. We hope you’ll be able to join us for the in-person event, but if not we highly recommend the virtual event so that you’re able to still reap the benefits of the conference and enjoy these educational sessions.
