Electrification Trends in New Home Construction
Where Are Builders Going All-Electric?
This interactive table tracks the share of Ekotrope HERS-rated new homes built without any gas, oil, propane, or wood (i.e. all-electric homes) across every active state from Q1 2024 through Q1 2026.
Between Q1 2024 and Q1 2026, the national picture shows a significant, steady climb from 26% to 31% of all Ekotrope-rated new construction homes, a clean 5% increase masking dramatic variation at the state level. California jumped from near zero to nearly 73% all-electric in just two years, driven by code changes taking hold in the market. Massachusetts, New York, and Washington all crossed 60% or higher by Q1 2026. The South, Southeast, and Mountain West continue to show the highest HERS Rating and construction volumes, with states like Texas, North Carolina, and Arizona each rating thousands of homes per quarter, making their relatively modest all-electric rates consequential at scale.
Ekotrope's dataset covers about 25% to 30% of all new construction in the U.S., offering a uniquely reliable window into these trends, verified at the point of field inspection rather than self-reported. Please note that some states may have lower HERS Rating adoption than others, so this data does not necessarily reflect the overall new construction trend in every state.
